Jodhpur, Rajasthan: Reacting to the blast near Nowgam Police Station in Jammu & Kashmir last night, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Sunday said that security agencies had already been on high alert following intelligence inputs related to the recovery of explosives.
Shekhawat noted that the incident, though unfortunate, could have resulted in catastrophic damage had the recent seizure of a massive quantity of explosives not taken place. “Even before the Delhi blast, security agencies were working with alertness once inputs on the recovery of explosives were received,” he said.
Referring to the recovery of nearly three tonnes of explosives, Shekhawat warned that the consequences would have been devastating if the materials had been used as intended. “The recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives before the incident—had its nefarious designs succeeded—it would have led to massive destruction,” he stated.
The minister strongly reiterated the government’s uncompromising stance on national security and counterterrorism. “The Government has zero tolerance for terrorism. Perpetrators of such incidents and those spreading such a mindset, be they within the country or outside, will be destroyed,” he asserted.
Shekhawat added that the government remains committed to dismantling terror networks and ensuring that those responsible face strict action. He also praised the vigilance of the security forces, emphasizing that their timely interventions prevented a potentially large-scale tragedy.
The investigation into the Nowgam blast is underway, with security forces working to identify the handlers and operational planners behind the attack.
