Rajasthan Home Minister Warns of Strict Punishment for Illegal Conversions, Slams Congress Opposition

Date:

Jaipur, Rajasthan: Rajasthan Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham on Monday issued a strong statement on the state’s proposed legislation against illegal religious conversions, accusing the Congress of indirectly supporting such activities by opposing the bill.

Taking aim at Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, Bedham said, “Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra opposing this bill indicates support for those involved in such activities. I strongly condemn this behaviour.”

Emphasising the government’s tough stance, he warned that strict action awaits anyone found guilty under the upcoming law. “Anyone found involved in illegal conversion activities will face between 7 and 14 years in prison, or a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. We will never let them succeed in their evil plans,” he added.

The proposed legislation has triggered political controversy, with the ruling government defending it as essential for protecting vulnerable communities, while the opposition alleges it could be misused. The debate is expected to intensify as the bill moves forward in the Assembly.
