Women’s T20 World Cup: Australia Outclasses England to Secure Seventh Championship

In a magnificent victory in the finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Australia defeated England by 7 wickets and clinched the World Champion title for the record 7th time. A century partnership between Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield played a decisive role in Australia’s victory in the final held at Lord’s on Sunday.

Australia won this title for the record 7th time out of the total 10 World Cups organised till date. England, West Indies, and New Zealand had won the World Cup title once only. Australia had previously won the championship in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023, whereas England had won the title only once, in 2009. West Indies team had won the title only once in 2016, and the New Zealand team had won the title in 2024.

England Scores 150 Runs

Batting first after losing the toss, England scored 150 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. The team did not get off to a good start, with M. Jones getting out for 6 runs when the score was 7. Subsequently, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt shared a 25-run partnership for the second wicket with Danni Wyatt-Hodge (8) and another 25-run partnership for the third wicket with Alice Capsey (23).

At one stage, England’s score stood at 70 for 4 in 10.5 overs. Following this, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Freya Kemp batted brilliantly, forging an unbeaten 80-run partnership off 55 balls for the fifth wicket. Sciver-Brunt played an unbeaten knock of 58 runs off 53 balls, including 5 fours. Meanwhile, Freya Kemp scored 44 runs off 28 balls, featuring 4 fours and 1 six. For Australia, Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Sophie Molineux, and Annabel Sutherland claimed one wicket each.

Mooney and Litchfield Lead Australia to an Easy Victory

Chasing a target of 151 runs, Australia won the match in 17.1 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process. Georgia Wareham was dismissed after scoring 9 runs, but Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield subsequently laid the foundation for victory by adding 100 runs for the second wicket in just 67 balls.

Phoebe Litchfield missed her half-century by two runs, getting out for 48 off 35 balls; her innings included six fours and two sixes. Beth Mooney then shared a 23-run partnership with Ellyse Perry. Mooney scored 64 runs off 49 balls, featuring 10 fours. Ellyse Perry remained unbeaten on 13, guiding the team to a record-extending seventh title. For England, Charlotte Dean, Lauren Bell, and Sophie Ecclestone claimed one wicket each.
