Taking a significant step towards strengthening citizen-centric and digital postal services, the Department of Posts has launched the ‘Dak MITRA’ and ‘Dak Sewa’ mobile applications. Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani launched these applications and inaugurated 14 renovated post office buildings across the country. The objective of these initiatives is to enhance last-mile service delivery, improve the citizen experience, and accelerate the digital and modern transformation of India Post.
In the presence of Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, and senior officials of the Department of Posts, the upgraded ‘Dak MITRA’ and ‘Dak Sewa’ applications were launched, and 14 renovated post office buildings were inaugurated.
Union Minister of State Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani stated that the launch of ‘Dak MITRA’ and ‘Dak Sewa’ marks a significant step towards making India Post more citizen-centric and technology-enabled. ‘Dak MITRA’ will assist personnel in delivering door-to-door services, while ‘Dak Sewa’ will provide various postal facilities on a single platform across 23 Indian languages. He noted that these initiatives combine reliable postal services with modern technology, speed, and easy accessibility.
Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia highlighted the Department of Posts’ technology-driven transformation through Dak Sewa and Dak MITRA, aimed at making postal services more accessible, user-friendly and relevant to every generation. He commended the teams for modernising India Post and strengthening citizen-centric services nationwide.
Developed under the DoP IT 2.0 modernization initiative, the ‘Dak MITRA’ app provides an integrated digital platform for over 1.4 lakh Branch Post Offices. Developed indigenously by CEPT, this app enables Branch Postmasters to deliver postal and financial services in a paperless and real-time manner using Android-based handheld devices. This has facilitated services such as mail booking, OTP-based doorstep delivery, core banking, insurance, Aadhaar e-KYC, cash deposits and withdrawals, and doorstep payment of PLI/RPLI premiums.
The ‘Dak Sewa App’ provides 24×7 access to postal services such as tracking, booking, grievance redressal, and post office/PIN code locators—as well as financial calculators in 23 Indian languages via ‘BHASHINI‘. Additionally, the Department of Posts is modernizing post offices in collaboration with SPA New Delhi. This initiative employs a flexible design manual that focuses on accessibility, operational efficiency, functionality, and an enhanced customer experience.
Under the Proof of Concept initiative, 40 post offices across 17 states were identified for transformation in accordance with the SPA design manual. Work on 27 of these has been completed; 14 revamped post offices were inaugurated on August 24, 2026, and the target is to complete work on the remaining post offices by August 31, 2026. Based on the experience gained, the Department proposes to extend this program to another 60 post offices during the current financial year. The 14 newly inaugurated Post Offices are spread across Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.
The revamped post offices combine India Post’s modern identity with citizen-centric design and technology-enabled services, thereby enhancing accessibility, operational efficiency, and last-mile delivery. Together with initiatives like ‘Dak MITRA’ and ‘Dak Sewa,’ these efforts reinforce the vision of a modern, citizen-centric India Post network that aligns with the goals of Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat.
