JVVNL Receives 60 Crore MNRE Incentive After Strong Rooftop Solar Expansion in 2024–25

Date:

Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL) has received about ₹60 crore from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for its good performance in increasing rooftop solar installations during the 2024–25 financial year. This is the highest incentive the Jaipur-based power distribution company has received so far under the central government’s rooftop solar promotion scheme.

The financial support was approved after JVVNL successfully added around 187 MW of new rooftop solar capacity within its distribution network during the year. The achievement made the utility one of the leading contributors to rooftop solar expansion among power distribution companies across India.

This incentive is part of a national programme under which the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) approved around ₹1,422 crore for 14 power distribution companies. The aim of this scheme is to promote rooftop solar systems connected to the grid, increase clean energy use, and reduce dependence on traditional power sources.

Officials said the rooftop solar installations completed under JVVNL covered multiple sectors, including residential homes, commercial establishments, industrial facilities, educational institutions, government buildings, and social infrastructure projects. The increase reflects growing public interest in renewable energy solutions and wider participation in government-supported solar schemes.

A major factor behind the growth has been the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which provides subsidies and financial assistance for rooftop solar installations. The scheme has encouraged households and businesses to adopt solar energy to lower electricity costs and reduce reliance on traditional power supply systems.

Compared to previous years, the latest incentive marks a significant jump for JVVNL. The discom had earlier received lower incentive allocations under the rooftop solar programme, but the sharp rise in installations during 2024–25 resulted in the record sanction amount.

Rajasthan is one of India’s leading renewable energy states because of its strong solar potential and favourable weather conditions. The state has already developed several large solar power projects, and now the focus is also on increasing rooftop solar systems across homes and buildings.

As the demand for rooftop solar continues to grow, JVVNL is expected to expand more installations in the coming years as part of Rajasthan’s overall plan to shift towards renewable energy.
