SMS Hospital Jaipur Gets Advanced Boost with Skill and Neuro-Otology Labs

Date:

Rajasthan: Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur has taken a major step forward in advanced medical education and specialty care with the inauguration of skill laboratories and a dedicated neuro-otology unit, aimed at strengthening both clinical training and patient treatment in complex ENT and neurological disorders.

The new facilities were formally launched at Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS Hospital) as part of its ongoing infrastructure upgrade in super-specialty departments. The initiative is designed to enhance hands-on training for doctors while improving diagnosis and treatment outcomes for patients suffering from balance, hearing, and neurological ear-related disorders.

According to hospital officials, the newly established setup includes a Skill Lab, Neuro-otology Lab, and upgraded surgical training infrastructure, all housed within the ENT department. These facilities are expected to significantly improve the training environment for resident doctors and medical students, allowing them to practice advanced procedures in a controlled academic setting before applying them in real clinical cases.

One of the key highlights of the upgrade is the introduction of a dedicated neuro-otology unit, which focuses on diagnosing and treating disorders related to the inner ear, balance system, and associated neurological pathways. Conditions such as vertigo, balance disorders, and hearing-related neurological complications will now be addressed with more precision using modern diagnostic tools.

The hospital has also added a cochlear implant operation theatre, enabling complex ear surgeries for patients with severe hearing impairment. In addition, a surgical skills lab for ENT residents has been developed to improve hands-on surgical training, while new audiology rooms and diagnostic machines have been installed to enhance hearing assessment services.

Officials stated that the upgrade is part of a broader effort to transform SMS Hospital into a centre of excellence in neuro-otology and ENT care, aligning with national standards in medical education and advanced patient treatment. The hospital already serves as one of Rajasthan’s largest tertiary care centres, catering to thousands of patients daily from across the state and neighbouring regions.

Experts associated with the project noted that neuro-otology is a rapidly evolving field that combines neurology and ear-related sciences, particularly useful in diagnosing complex balance disorders and nerve-related hearing issues. With the help of the new lab infrastructure, doctors will be able to perform more accurate assessments and develop targeted treatment plans.

The introduction of these labs is also expected to strengthen clinical research and academic output, as medical students and faculty will now have access to modern simulation-based training. This will help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world surgical experience, especially in high-precision ENT procedures.

Hospital authorities emphasized that the upgrade reflects a long-term vision to improve patient care quality, surgical safety, and medical education standards. The new setup will also reduce dependency on external facilities for advanced ENT diagnostics and procedures.

With this development, SMS Hospital continues its gradual transformation into a highly specialized medical training and treatment hub, reinforcing its role as a key healthcare institution in Rajasthan’s public health system.
