Jodhpur, April 6: In an inspiring act of environmental stewardship, a Rajasthan farmer has planted around 27,000 trees in the desert, creating a green barrier that protects his village from encroaching sand dunes.

Ranaram Bishnoi, from Ekalkhori village near Jodhpur, carried out the plantation over several decades on approximately 10 acres of barren land, manually watering and tending to the saplings to ensure they took root in harsh desert conditions. His effort has slowed soil erosion and reduced the threat of sand swallowing nearby fields and homes.

Bishnoi belongs to the Bishnoi community, long known for its commitment to nature conservation. Local officials and environmentalists have praised his work as a model for sustainable afforestation in arid regions, helping create a micro-ecosystem that benefits both humans and wildlife.

Experts note that such large-scale tree planting is vital to combating desertification, improving soil fertility, and supporting biodiversity in the Thar Desert. Bishnoi’s dedication demonstrates how individual initiative can make a significant impact on the environment and community resilience.

The farmer’s extraordinary achievement has now become a source of inspiration for similar afforestation projects across Rajasthan and beyond.
