Air Connectivity Restored: Jodhpur Airport Back in Action After Runway Upgrades

Date:

Jodhpur, April 28: The Jodhpur Airport is set to resume civil flight operations from today, marking the end of a month-long suspension caused by essential runway maintenance work. The airport, which plays a key role in connecting western Rajasthan to major Indian cities, will once again see passenger aircraft operations starting this morning.

According to official schedules, the first flight is expected to be an IndiGo service arriving from Bengaluru at around 8:45 am, signalling the formal restart of commercial aviation activity at the airport after nearly four weeks of disruption.

The temporary shutdown of the airport began on March 29 and continued until April 27, during which all civilian flight operations were suspended to allow extensive runway recarpeting work. The maintenance project was carried out in coordination with the Indian Air Force (IAF), as Jodhpur Airport functions as a joint civil-military facility, where the runway is under defence control while passenger services are operated by civil authorities.

Officials confirmed that the repair work was executed in three structured phases to ensure long-term safety and operational efficiency. While the first phase allowed limited operations, the second phase required a complete shutdown of flight services, and the final phase involved partial restoration before full reopening.

With operations resuming, airlines are expected to gradually restore connectivity from Jodhpur to key metropolitan cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Hyderabad. The airport typically handles multiple daily flights operated by carriers such as IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express, making it an important aviation hub for the region.

However, authorities have indicated that some routes may remain temporarily affected during the transition phase, as final adjustments and post-maintenance assessments continue. Passengers are advised to check updated flight schedules with airlines before planning travel. The reopening is expected to significantly ease travel disruptions faced by passengers over the past month. Local tourism and business sectors, which rely heavily on air connectivity, are also likely to benefit from the restoration of regular services.

Jodhpur Airport’s resumption comes at a time when several other IAF-controlled civil airports across India are undergoing similar runway upgrade programs. These maintenance efforts are part of a broader infrastructure push aimed at improving safety standards and ensuring smoother operations for both civilian and defence aviation requirements.

With flights resuming today, Jodhpur is once again reconnected to India’s major aviation network, bringing relief to thousands of travellers who depend on the airport for domestic connectivity.
