Nation Salutes Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on His Martyrdom Day, PM Modi Leads Tributes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the founder of the Bhartiya Janasangh, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, on his martyrdom day. PM Modi wrote a post on X, “I pay homage to the great asset of our country, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who devoted all his life to the nation and society without any personal interest. His fierce thoughts and sentiments will continue to inspire the whole nation to serve the motherland.

PM Modi wrote on X, “On his martyr day, I pay homage to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He was a great nationalist, intelligent, and a leader, who devoted his life to the development of India.”

He wrote, “His unbreakable commitment, courage in public life and devotion towards the national interest will continue to inspire every generation. Dr Mukherjee’s sacrifice will always have a place in our collective consciousness. We share our commitment to make a strong and developed India by drawing inspiration from his thoughts, which they have adopted till his last breath and worked throughout his life.”

Who was Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee

Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a great educationist and leader. He was born in a prestigious family of Kolkata on 6th of July 1901. His father, Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, was a multi-talented man and also recognised as an educationist. Dr Mukherjee completed his matric in 1917 and gained the B.A. degree in 1921.

He went abroad in 1923 after completing his Law degree and became a barrister in England in 1926. He returned to India after becoming a barrister and became the Vice Chancellor of Kolkata University when he was only 33 years old. He was the youngest person to become the vice chancellor.

He was the founding father of the Bhartiya Jana Sangh and became the first president of the party. He was also the Industry and Supply Minister in the first cabinet of independent India.
