Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged young Indians interested in gaming to pursue their passion responsibly, stating that gaming can be a meaningful career path when approached with discipline, creativity, and ethical boundaries.
During an interactive session with youth, a student shared his deep interest in gaming and expressed concern over societal pressure to abandon gaming in favour of conventional academic paths. Responding to the concern, the Prime Minister acknowledged that parents often initially discourage unconventional interests but eventually become proud supporters when they see tangible success.
PM Modi said that passion must be supported by effort and results. He advised young gamers to move beyond casual gaming and focus on becoming creators rather than mere consumers. Suggesting practical steps, he encouraged aspiring game developers to design one or two original games and showcase them through social media platforms. “When people see that thousands are playing your game, even families begin to recognise the potential,” he said.
Highlighting India’s rich cultural heritage, the Prime Minister urged youth to draw inspiration from Indian stories and epics. He suggested creating games based on traditional narratives such as Panchatantra, Hanuman’s tales, and episodes from the Mahabharata, noting that such ideas could generate both creativity and national pride.
PM Modi also cautioned against gaming practices that resemble gambling or involve betting. He underlined that such activities are harmful and said the government has taken steps to prevent betting-related gaming. “Gaming should be about skill and creativity, not about wagering money,” he said.
Describing gaming as a skill-intensive field requiring speed, alertness, and strategic thinking, the Prime Minister said it can contribute positively to personal development when pursued with focus. He encouraged young people to identify high-quality gaming opportunities and work towards building expertise rather than engaging in time-pass activities.
The interaction, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, was marked by an informal and friendly atmosphere. Participants described the discussion as inspiring, saying the Prime Minister listened attentively and offered practical, motivating advice.
The remarks highlight the government’s growing recognition of the gaming and digital creative sectors as emerging career avenues, especially for India’s tech-savvy youth.
