Jaipur: Shyam Sundar Swami, a brilliant para archer from Rajasthan, has been selected for the Indian national para archery team for the upcoming Para Asian Games 2026. The competition will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan from October 18 to 24, 2026. This is a major success in his sporting career, as he has been selected for the Indian national team for the third consecutive time. This further strengthens his position among India’s top para archers.
The Archery Association of India held the national selection trials in Sonipat, Haryana. Swami performed brilliantly, finishing second among para-archers from across the country. Given his outstanding and consistent performance in the trials, he was directly selected for the final Indian team.
According to officials of the Rajasthan Archery Association, the trials witnessed intense competition over two days, with top-ranked para archers vying for limited spots. Swami’s strong showing stood out, ultimately earning him a berth in the national contingent heading to Japan. Association representatives, including senior office-bearers, noted that his performance reflects the growing strength of archery in Rajasthan and the steady rise of para-athletes from the state.
They also emphasized the role of dedicated coaching in his success, specifically acknowledging the contribution of his coach Anil Joshi, whose guidance has been instrumental in shaping Swami’s international journey.
