Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament to Begin in Jaipur Under Atiya Parveen Memorial Series from May 5

Date:

Jaipur: The Maitri Cricket Club will organise the third Atiya Parveen Memorial Women’s Twenty20 Cricket Tournament from 5 May 2026 at Sony Stadium in Jaipur, aiming to promote women’s cricket and provide structured competitive exposure to emerging players, organisers said. The tournament, held annually in memory of late cricketer Atiya Parveen, will feature women’s teams from Jaipur and nearby regions competing in the T20 format (20 overs per side).

According to organisers, the event is part of a continuing effort to strengthen grassroots women’s cricket and honour Atiya Parveen’s contribution to the sport at the local level. The tournament is designed to offer match experience in a formal competitive setting, helping players transition from training-level cricket to higher-level tournaments.

The competition will begin on 5 May 2026 at Sony Stadium and is expected to run for several days, depending on match outcomes and scheduling. Organisers said the matches will follow a league-cum-knockout format, ensuring that each team plays multiple matches in the initial stage before advancing to elimination rounds. This structure is intended to maximise playing time and provide fair competitive exposure to all participating teams.

While the final list of teams is still being confirmed, organisers said participation from several women’s teams across Jaipur and nearby districts is expected. The tournament will follow standard cricket rules, including 11 players per side, 20 overs per innings, and results based on runs scored and wickets taken. In case of tied matches, standard tie-break rules such as a super over may be used, depending on tournament regulations.

The matches will be hosted at Sony Stadium in Jaipur, which has previously held local and district-level cricket competitions. Organisers said necessary arrangements have been made to ensure proper playing conditions, including match officials, scoring staff, and basic facilities for participating teams.

The organisers also announced that the total prize pool for the tournament is ₹51,000, which will be awarded to the winning teams along with individual recognitions for outstanding performances. They said the prize distribution is intended to encourage participation and recognise talent in women’s cricket at the grassroots level.

Officials associated with Maitri Cricket Club said the tournament is aimed at promoting structured opportunities for women cricketers in Rajasthan. They added that consistent competitive exposure helps bridge the gap between local-level cricket and higher platforms such as district and state selections.

Women’s cricket in India has been expanding steadily in recent years, supported by increased participation at the grassroots level and the growth of domestic competitions. Sports development experts have noted that regular tournaments play a key role in identifying talent and improving performance standards among emerging athletes.

The organisers said certified umpires and match officials will oversee the games to ensure compliance with recognised cricket standards. Fair play guidelines, disciplinary rules, and official match procedures will be strictly followed throughout the tournament.

Basic facilities such as seating arrangements, hydration support, and first-aid services will be available at the venue. Organisers said player safety and smooth conduct of matches remain a priority in planning and execution.

The Maitri Cricket Club stated that the memorial tournament also serves to preserve the legacy of Atiya Parveen, who contributed to the development of women’s cricket at the local level. They added that the initiative aims to inspire more young women to take up the sport and pursue competitive opportunities.

Sports observers said such tournaments play an important role in strengthening the women’s cricket ecosystem by providing structured match experience and visibility to emerging players. They added that consistent participation in competitive events is often crucial for progression to higher-level cricket.

With the third Atiya Parveen Memorial Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament set to begin on 5 May 2026 at Sony Stadium, Jaipur, organisers are expecting strong participation, competitive matches, and continued development of women’s cricket in the region.
