Indian Army showcases Apache attack helicopters in ‘Brahmastra’ desert exercise in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer, April 10, 2026: The Indian Army demonstrated its formidable firepower and advanced combat capabilities during the ‘Brahmastra’ exercise at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer, with a major focus on the operational deployment of Apache attack helicopters.

The exercise highlighted the Army’s emphasis on integrated battlefield operations, combining aerial platforms with ground forces to enhance effectiveness in desert warfare conditions.

Apache helicopters in action

The AH-64E Apache attack helicopters were the highlight of the drill, showcasing precision strike capabilities against simulated targets. The aircraft carried out coordinated firing exercises using advanced weapon systems, including air-to-ground missiles, rockets, and onboard gun systems.

The demonstration reflected the helicopters’ ability to deliver accurate firepower in complex battlefield scenarios while operating at low altitudes over desert terrain.

Focus on integrated warfare

Officials said the exercise was aimed at strengthening coordination between aviation and ground units, simulating real-time combat situations. It tested surveillance, target acquisition, and precision strike capabilities as part of network-centric warfare operations.

The Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer continues to serve as a key location for large-scale military exercises involving artillery, armoured units, and aviation assets.

The Indian Army stated that such exercises are part of regular training to improve operational preparedness, joint force integration, and precision engagement capability.

The Brahmastra exercise underlines the increasing role of advanced attack helicopters in supporting ground operations and enhancing battlefield dominance in critical sectors.
