The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Yogi Adityanath, has approved the establishment of a new private university—Metro University—in Greater Noida, marking a major push for higher education expansion in the state.
Approval Under Private University Act
According to Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay:
- The decision has been taken under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019
- The Act ensures proper regulation, establishment, and functioning of private universities
University to Be Built on 26.1 Acres
- The university will be developed on 26.1 acres of land
- Land allocated by the Greater Noida Authority
- Proposed by Sunhill Healthcare Private Limited
The Cabinet has also approved:
- Implementation of Uttar Pradesh Private University (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026
- Issuance of a formal letter of authorization for operations
Boost to Youth & Employment Opportunities
The government believes the new university will:

- Enhance skill development among youth
- Improve employability and career prospects
Push for Investment in Education Sector
The move aligns with the state’s focus on:

Big Relief for Shiksha Mitras
In another key decision, the Cabinet approved:
- Increase in honorarium for Shiksha Mitras
- Monthly payment raised from ₹10,000 to ₹18,000
This decision will benefit lakhs of education workers across the state.
