In a historic development aimed at enhancing water resource management and fostering regional development, the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have sealed a monumental agreement for the Rs 72,000 crore Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal river linking project. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed in Bhopal by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, marking a significant milestone in inter-state collaboration.
The ambitious project seeks to address water scarcity issues and facilitate the supply of drinking and industrial water to 13 districts in eastern Rajasthan and the Malwa and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh. It aims to irrigate a vast area of 2.8 lakh hectares in each state, harnessing the water resources of the Chambal basin for economic utilization.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted the project’s strategic importance, emphasizing its potential to transform regional economies and ensure sustainable water management practices. “This project will set a new development landmark for both states, ensuring optimal utilization of every drop of water,” remarked Chief Minister Yadav, underlining the long-term benefits envisioned through the initiative.
Beyond water management, the agreement opens avenues for future collaboration in various sectors including tourism, medicine, mining, and more. It is expected to spur economic growth and create employment opportunities across both states, leveraging the synergy generated by the shared water resources.
