Meerut–Prayagraj in 6–7 Hours as Ganga Expressway Opens with 120 kmph Speed Limit

Date:

The upcoming 594-km-long Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh is set to redefine high-speed road travel, with authorities confirming that vehicles will be allowed to cruise at speeds of up to 120 km per hour once it opens for public use on April 29.

The expressway is expected to drastically reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from 10–12 hours to just 6–7 hours, offering a faster and more efficient east–west road corridor across the state.

Major High-Speed Infrastructure Project

Built by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the expressway has been designed as a six-lane, access-controlled highway, with provisions to expand it into an eight-lane corridor in the future.

Officials have emphasized that the project has been developed with a focus on high-speed safety standards, modern engineering design, and controlled traffic movement.

Route Spanning 12 Districts

The expressway connects Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east, passing through key districts including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, and Pratapgarh.

It is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity, logistics movement, and inter-city travel efficiency across Uttar Pradesh.

Key Features and Facilities

The project includes several major infrastructure components:

  • Two main toll plazas at Meerut and Prayagraj
  • 19 ramp toll plazas for smooth entry and exit across sections
  • Nine utility complexes offering fuel stations, food courts, rest areas, and washroom facilities
  • Major river bridges including a 960-metre bridge over the Ganga and a 720-metre bridge over the Ramganga
  • Advanced engineering designed to handle flood conditions and heavy traffic loads

Speed Design and Safety Measures

The expressway has been engineered for a design speed of 120 kmph, making it one of the fastest road corridors in India. It features access-controlled entry points, modern monitoring systems, and crash safety infrastructure to ensure smoother and safer travel.

Officials also noted that the expressway has been constructed in multiple packages to ensure timely completion and quality control.

Inauguration and Impact

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the expressway on April 29 in Hardoi district, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s expanding expressway network.

Once operational, the Ganga Expressway is expected to:

  • Cut long-distance travel time significantly
  • Improve freight and logistics efficiency
  • Boost economic activity across connected districts
  • Strengthen regional connectivity between western and eastern UP

With its 120 kmph cruising capability and modern infrastructure backbone, the Ganga Expressway is set to become a major high-speed transport corridor, reshaping road travel standards in Uttar Pradesh.
