Rajasthan Heatwave Alert: Barmer, Kota Cross 41°C as IMD Warns of Rising Temperatures from April 17

Date:

Jaipur, April 2026: Rajasthan is witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures, with Barmer emerging as the hottest district at 41.6°C, followed closely by Kota at 41.5°C, as intense heat grips several parts of the state.

Multiple Districts Cross 40°C Mark

According to the India Meteorological Department, several districts have recorded temperatures above 40°C:

  • Barmer: 41.6°C (highest)
  • Kota: 41.5°C
  • Jaisalmer: 40.5°C
  • Churu and Chittorgarh: Above 40°C

Western Rajasthan is also experiencing hot daytime winds, intensifying discomfort for residents.

IMD Issues Heatwave Warning

The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to develop from April 17, with a Yellow Alert issued for several districts.

  • April 17: Sri Ganganagar, Barmer, and Jaisalmer likely to face heatwave
  • April 18: Alert continues for Sri Ganganagar and Barmer

Weather Conditions and Temporary Relief

Clear skies and strong sunshine over the past 24 hours have driven the temperature surge. However, some evening relief was observed:

  • Light clouds over Jhunjhunu, Sikar, and Alwar
  • Similar cloud activity in Nagaur

These brought mild breezes and temporary respite from the heat.

Advisory for Residents

Authorities have advised people to:

  • Avoid exposure to the sun during peak hours
  • Stay hydrated
  • Take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses

With temperatures expected to rise further, residents should remain alert to worsening heatwave conditions.
