Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held high-level meetings with German officials and business leaders in Berlin. The objective of these meetings was to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation, with a particular focus on the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Goyal met with Katherina Reiche, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. During the meeting, they discussed opportunities for closer industrial collaboration and the potential of the proposed FTA to expand trade and investment.
The two ministers also jointly inaugurated the ‘India Centre’ at the ‘German Council on Foreign Relations’ (DGAP) to foster policy research and dialogue on India-Germany relations.
The ministers co-chaired the India-Germany Business Roundtable organized by the DGAP and the ‘Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business’ (APA)—which brought together German CEOs and industry leaders. The discussion focused primarily on translating the proposed India-EU FTA into tangible business, trade, and investment opportunities.
Addressing the Berlin Global Dialogue, Goyal highlighted the importance of trust, complementary economic strengths and resilient supply chains in building international partnerships. He participated in a panel titled “New Era, New Alliances: The Third Path?” alongside international policymakers and business leaders.
Goyal also held separate meetings with senior executives from Bayer AG, Knauf Group, and Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA to explore opportunities for trade and investment cooperation. He is visiting Germany and the Netherlands with a delegation of approximately 100 Indian businesses and startups. This visit is part of efforts to deepen India’s strategic partnership with Germany and expand economic cooperation with European markets.
