BJP’s Gaurav Vallabh Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Dead Economy’ Remark

BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh on Monday criticised Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Indian economy, asserting that India remains one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world.

Addressing the media, Vallabh said that describing the Indian economy as “dead” does not reflect current global assessments or economic indicators. He stated that India’s growth trajectory, expanding business environment, and increasing global engagement demonstrate resilience and momentum. “The world is learning from the Indian economy. India’s economy is directing global business trends,” he said.

Vallabh further referred to recent trade developments, stating that the United States has imposed comparatively lower tariffs on India relative to many other countries, including some allied partners. He questioned Rahul Gandhi’s characterisation of the situation as a “surrender,” arguing instead that India’s trade negotiations reflect strategic engagement and national interest.

The BJP leader maintained that economic reforms, digital transformation, infrastructure expansion, and manufacturing initiatives have strengthened India’s position in the global marketplace. He added that consistent policy direction has contributed to investor confidence and sustained economic activity.

Rahul Gandhi’s remarks had drawn political reactions, with the Congress maintaining that economic concerns such as unemployment and price rise need urgent attention. The exchange highlights ongoing differences between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress over the state of the economy.
