Date:

Bikaner, RajasthanUnion Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal strongly defended the Waqf (Amendment) Act, asserting that the legislation is fully in line with the Constitution and that Parliament has the constitutional authority to amend the bill. Meghwal’s comments came after opposition parties raised concerns over the bill’s legality and its potential implications.

“They (the opposition) have every right to go to court. But I am fully confident that there is no violation of the Constitution anywhere in this,” Meghwal said in a statement. He emphasized that Parliament has the absolute power to amend laws as it sees fit, provided the changes are within the framework of the Constitution. “Parliament has full authority to amend the bill,” he added, dismissing claims that the amendment could infringe on constitutional rights.

The Waqf (Amendment) Act, which seeks to reform the management of Waqf properties, has been a point of contention in political circles, with some critics alleging that it could potentially lead to misuse or lack of transparency. However, Meghwal’s remarks reflect the BJP’s confidence in the legitimacy of the amendment and the parliamentary process.

The minister’s strong defense of the bill highlights the ruling party’s stance on the matter, aiming to reassure the public and lawmakers that the legislation will contribute positively to the management of Waqf properties while adhering to legal and constitutional norms.
