During the NSA-level Security Dialogue held in New Delhi from October 5 to 7, India and Canada agreed to strengthen cooperation against terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organized crime, human and drug trafficking, cybercrime, and extortion.
The meeting was held at the invitation of India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, with David Morrison—a Senior Diplomatic and International Affairs Advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister, visited India for discussions.
Both sides reviewed the progress bilateral security and law-enforcement cooperation, including the implementation of the Security Work Plan scheduled in February 2026. They also discussed the extradition of criminal offenders and agreed on enhanced coordination and timely information sharing regarding matters of mutual interest.
Focus on cybersecurity and economic security
India and Canada discussed expanding practical cooperation in cybersecurity and economic security, including the possibility of setting up structured dialogues in these areas. Both sides also agreed to strengthen existing mechanisms and create new channels, where needed, to improve communication and timely information-sharing, while exchanging views on regional and global developments.
These latest discussions follow the NSA-level security talks held in New Delhi in September 2025 and Ottawa in February 2026. Both sides noted the continuous dialogue maintained over the past year and reiterated their resolve to strengthen bilateral relations.
The officials also acknowledged guidance from their respective Prime Ministers during their meeting in New Delhi in March 2026 and their interaction on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian in June 2026.
India and Canada also welcomed efforts to advance negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and discussed the potential for developing a more substantive bilateral defence relationship.
