PM Modi Leaves for Three-Nation Visit, Emphasises Expanding Economic Cooperation

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins his three-nation tour today. PM Modi will visit Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. This will be a 6-day visit starting today and will end on July 11, 2026.

Before his departure, PM Modi said that this visit will help strengthen the economic and strategic cooperation between India and these three nations and will create more opportunities for Indian youth.

Prime Minister’s Statement

PM Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’:

“Over the next few days, I will be participating in various programs across Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. The aim of these meetings is to enhance economic and strategic cooperation with key development partners and ensure greater opportunities for our country’s youth in the future.”

Itinerary and Objectives of the Visit

1. Indonesia (July 6–8)

Prime Minister Modi will visit Indonesia at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto. This will be his first bilateral visit there since 2018. A Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has already been established between the two nations. During the visit, PM Modi will meet the Indian diaspora and, alongside President Prabowo, visit the famous Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta—a symbol of the cultural ties between the two countries.

2. Australia

From Indonesia, PM Modi will travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in areas such as defence and security, trade and investment, education, mobility, and emerging technologies. A meeting with the Indian diaspora is also on the agenda.

3. New Zealand

From Melbourne, PM Modi will travel to Auckland at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. Relations between the two countries have gained momentum following Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025. The visit will focus on advancing a Free Trade Agreement and fostering economic and commercial cooperation. PM Modi will also address the Indian community. Strategic Significance

In conclusion, PM Modi stated that his visits to Indonesia and Australia—located in the eastern and southern Indian Ocean, respectively—followed by a visit to New Zealand, would further strengthen India’s ‘Act East’ policy and ‘Ocean Vision,’ as well as our commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
