Jaipur: Host University of Rajasthan, UEM Jaipur, Saurashtra University and Periyar University have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the ongoing All India Inter-University Men’s Handball Tournament being held at the University Sports Complex in Jaipur. The five-day championship, organized by the University of Rajasthan Sports Board, has brought together 16 top university teams from across the country in a fierce contest for the national title.
The prestigious tournament has returned to the University of Rajasthan after a gap of 12 years and is being conducted in a league-cum-knockout format. Teams were divided into four pools, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage. The event has created a vibrant sporting atmosphere on campus, drawing athletes, coaches, and supporters from across India.
In one of the key matches of the final league round, the University of Rajasthan delivered a strong performance against Annamalai University, Chidambaram, registering a convincing 40-31 victory. The host team dominated from the start and led 19-12 at halftime. Dinesh emerged as the top scorer for Rajasthan with eight goals, while Sumit, Mohit, and Jasman contributed five goals each to strengthen the team’s winning campaign.
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, also impressed with a commanding 36-18 win over Manipur University. Harshdeep played a crucial role in the victory by scoring nine goals and leading his side with confidence throughout the match.
UEM Jaipur produced one of the most dominant performances of the day by defeating VIT Vellore 50-24 in a high-scoring clash. Divyanshu stole the spotlight with an outstanding 11-goal performance, making him one of the standout players of the tournament so far.
Saurashtra University, Rajkot, also secured a quarterfinal berth after defeating USTM Meghalaya 42-29. Their strong defensive setup and effective attacking strategy helped them advance comfortably to the next round. Periyar University, Salem, had already shown excellent form during the group stage and entered the quarterfinals with confidence after consistent performances.
The quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Friday morning, with all games starting at 6:30 AM. UEM Jaipur will face Periyar University, while Saurashtra University will take on KAHE, Coimbatore. Host University of Rajasthan is set to clash with GNDU, Amritsar, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. In the final quarterfinal fixture, Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, will take on Annamalai University.
The semifinals will be played later in the evening, setting the stage for an exciting finish as India’s top university handball teams continue their battle for the prestigious inter-university championship title.
