Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Ranji Trophy stalwart Vineet Saxena has been appointed as the head coach of the BCCI’s Elite Under-19 Boys Camp, marking a major milestone in his coaching career and a proud moment for Rajasthan cricket.
The prestigious four-week camp, organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, will be held in Puducherry from May 11 to June 6, 2026. The camp is designed to identify and develop some of India’s most promising young cricket talents and prepare them for higher levels of national competition.
At 45, Vineet Saxena brings extensive experience to the role, having served Rajasthan cricket for nearly two decades and played 129 First-Class matches during his long domestic career. He was widely regarded as one of Rajasthan’s most dependable batters and played a key role during the team’s successful Ranji Trophy years.
Before this appointment, Saxena had already worked with the BCCI in important coaching assignments. His most recent national-level role was as the batting coach of India A during the T20 World Cup warm-up matches a few months ago. Last season, he also served as the head of women’s cricket in Rajasthan, where he contributed to player development and team performance.
His appointment to lead the elite Under-19 camp reflects the BCCI’s confidence in his coaching ability and deep understanding of domestic cricket. The camp will focus on high-performance training, technical improvement, match awareness, and mental preparation for young cricketers who are considered future prospects for Indian cricket.
The BCCI Centre of Excellence plays a crucial role in shaping India’s next generation of cricketers by providing specialised training and exposure to top-level coaching. Being selected as head coach for such a programme is considered a highly respected responsibility within Indian cricket.
Cricket experts believe Saxena’s vast first-class experience and calm leadership style make him well-suited for mentoring young players at a crucial stage of their development. His journey from a successful domestic cricketer to a national-level coach also serves as an inspiration for aspiring players from Rajasthan and across the country.
The appointment is also seen as recognition of Rajasthan’s growing contribution to Indian cricket, both in player development and coaching excellence.
As the camp begins in May, all eyes will be on how Vineet Saxena shapes the next generation of India’s Under-19 talent. His new role not only strengthens the BCCI’s youth development structure but also reinforces the importance of experienced domestic players transitioning into elite coaching positions.
