Udaipur–Mount Abu Route Set for Upgrade with New 8-Km Four-Lane Stretch at Haldighati

Date:

The Rajasthan government is moving ahead with a major infrastructure push in the Udaipur region, with plans to construct an 8-kilometre-long four-lane road near Haldighati, aimed at significantly improving connectivity between Udaipur and Mount Abu.

The proposed project is expected to strengthen road infrastructure along a key tourist and transit corridor that connects southern Rajasthan’s major destinations. The stretch passes through the historically significant Haldighati, a region known for its strategic and cultural importance, located about 44 km from Udaipur.

According to officials, the project involves the development of a four-lane road over an 8 km stretch, which will help ease traffic congestion and improve travel efficiency on the route frequently used by tourists and local commuters. The improved road network is expected to enhance connectivity toward Mount Abu, Rajasthan’s only hill station and a major tourist destination.

Currently, the road connectivity between Udaipur and Mount Abu spans roughly 165–205 km depending on the route, and is widely used for tourism and regional travel. The new four-lane stretch is expected to make this journey smoother and safer by addressing bottlenecks in the Haldighati section.

Officials highlighted that the project is part of a broader effort to upgrade road infrastructure in the region and support tourism growth. The Udaipur–Mount Abu corridor passes through scenic and historically important areas, including Haldighati, which is famous as the site of the Battle of Haldighati fought in 1576.

The road development is also expected to boost economic activity in nearby areas by improving access for transport and tourism-related businesses. Better road conditions will likely reduce travel time, enhance safety, and provide a more seamless experience for visitors traveling between key destinations in southern Rajasthan.

Experts note that four-laning of critical stretches is essential to handle increasing traffic volumes, especially during peak tourist seasons. The project is expected to not only benefit tourists heading to Mount Abu but also improve regional connectivity for residents and businesses.

With the construction of this 8-km four-lane road, the government aims to strengthen infrastructure in the region while supporting tourism, easing traffic pressure, and improving overall connectivity between some of Rajasthan’s most visited locations.
