At the invitation of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited India from October 20 to 21, 2026. This was Rubio’s second visit to India; he had previously visited New Delhi in May 2026.
During their meeting in Mumbai, India and the United States reviewed all key aspects of their bilateral relationship. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen their comprehensive global strategic partnership.
Detailed discussions were held across several critical sectors, including trade, defence, technology, and energy security. Both sides welcomed the progress made in the ongoing negotiations for an India-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and reiterated their commitment to working toward its early finalisation. The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional and global developments.
During the visit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also participated as the chief guest at the ‘U.S. Freedom 250 Reception,’ hosted by the U.S. Ambassador.
This visit reflects the continuity of high-level dialogue between India and the United States. Furthermore, it underscores the commitment of both nations to advancing the ‘India-U.S. COMPACT’ for the 21st century.
