India and Argentina held the fourth Joint Trade Committee meeting in Buenos Aires on August 24, 2026, during which they reviewed the progress made on the roadmap established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2025 visit. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening trade and economic cooperation.
Bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded USD 6.5 billion in 2025, recording an annual growth of over 17 percent. India has become Argentina’s fifth-largest trading partner. Both sides emphasized trade facilitation, the reduction of non-tariff barriers, the promotion of investment, and ensuring more balanced opportunities for businesses in both countries.
India and Argentina are expanding cooperation in mining, energy, infrastructure and agriculture. Indian state-run KABIL has made significant progress in its lithium project in Catamarca, including completion of Phase II drilling, while opportunities in Salta and Jujuy are also being explored. At the same time, talks are advancing to open Argentina’s market to Indian onions, milk products, grapes, potatoes, bananas and pulses, creating new opportunities for Indian farmers and exporters and strengthening bilateral trade. These developments will boost opportunities for Indian farmers and exporters, strengthen agricultural trade and support the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
India and Argentina have taken steps to enhance cooperation in the fields of pharmaceuticals and traditional medicine. Argentina has committed to working towards moving India from Annex II to Annex I within its regulatory framework to facilitate market access for Indian pharmaceutical products. Additionally, building upon the 2019 agreement, ANMAT and CDSCO will promote joint initiatives in Ayurveda and Yoga, which is expected to create opportunities for affordable and quality healthcare services.
Following the Joint Trade Conference (JTC), a meeting was held with H.E. Pablo Quirno, Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, and representatives of the G6 industry chambers. The dialogue emphasized new opportunities for bilateral economic relations and the need to align government initiatives with industry requirements.
India and Argentina have identified aviation, space technology, telecommunications, and digital services as emerging areas of cooperation, particularly in 5G, AI, and digital infrastructure.
Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal discussed market access for agricultural products, regulatory recognition for Indian medicines, and non-tariff barriers with senior officials from Argentina. Discussions were also held on advancing space and nuclear cooperation between the two countries, particularly regarding the proposed meeting between ISRO and CONAE.
The India–Argentina Business Forum, held on 25 August 2026 at Palacio San Martín, brought together senior officials and leading businesses from both countries. Led by Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal, India’s largest-ever business delegation to Argentina, comprising over 25 industry leaders including UPL, Kirloskar and Aditya Birla Group, explored opportunities to turn bilateral economic ties into concrete business outcomes.
The forum emphasized the significant potential to further strengthen India-Argentina economic ties by enhancing trade, investment, and business partnerships in key sectors. By focusing on improving market access, reducing regulatory barriers, and strengthening industry-to-industry linkages, both nations can transform shared opportunities into tangible results and foster sustainable growth.
