Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Unveils ‘As Seen on Netflix’ Initiative to Boost India’s Tourism Through Storytelling

Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the ‘As Seen on Netflix’ section on the Incredible India portal on Wednesday. It has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Netflix India. It was launched at a special event held at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi to mark the completion of ten years of Netflix in India.

Netflix Co-CEO Mr. Ted Sarandos discussed with the Union Minister the pivotal role of storytelling in promoting India’s cultural heritage, tourism, and creative economy. The initiative aims to promote the country’s rich heritage and tourism by connecting global audiences with the actual Indian locations, cultural traditions, and tourism experiences featured in films and series.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stated that stories from India have been inspiring the world for centuries, and technology is now becoming a powerful medium to take them to a global level. He noted that the creative economy is strengthening India’s cultural heritage alongside generating employment.

The Union Minister welcomed partnerships that showcase Indian talent, cultural diversity, and heritage on the global stage. He stated that India’s culture is its greatest strength and that its historical legacy, traditions, and folklore have the potential to reach the world.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO of Netflix said that India’s diverse stories and traditions have captivated audiences worldwide and inspired people to discover and understand the country’s tourist destinations and rich cultural heritage. He reiterated the commitment to continue partnerships with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism to showcase India’s cultural heritage and tourist destinations to the world.

Over the past decade, Netflix has brought the cultures, traditions, and stories from various regions of India to a global audience. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s objectives of preserving cultural heritage, promoting cultural tourism, and strengthening the creative economy.
