Ayush Shetty Advances to China Open Pre-Quarterfinals, Keeps India’s Hopes Alive

At the China Open badminton tournament, India’s Ayush Shetty secured a spot in the pre-quarterfinals today by defeating Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan 21-17, 5-21, 21-17 in the men’s singles match. Meanwhile, India’s PV Sindhu is set to face her compatriot Unnati Hooda in the women’s singles Round of 32 in Changzhou. In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen will also face Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in the Round of 32 today.

In the men’s doubles Round of 32, the Indian pair of MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan will face China’s Wang Chang and Liang Weikeng today.

In the mixed doubles Round of 32, the Indian duo of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde lost 21-9, 21-16 to China’s Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping. India’s Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila were also eliminated from the tournament after losing to China’s Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui.

Earlier, HS Prannoy was eliminated in the first round yesterday after losing to Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao. The Indian shuttler, ranked world number 27, lost the match 21-10, 21-14. In women’s singles, Devika Sihag lost to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-19, 19-21, 21-13.
