Ministry of Tribal Affairs Launches TribeX, Partners with Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya for Tribal Diploma Courses

Date:

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched ‘TribeX’ on Tuesday. It is the first-of-its-kind digital learning platform dedicated to tribal art, culture, traditional knowledge, and skill development. The platform was launched by the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, during a national workshop on ‘Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs)’ held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Jual Oram stated that TribeX reflects the government’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to, preserve, promote, and showcase India’s rich tribal heritage through digital technology. He emphasized that this platform would make the authentic knowledge of tribal people widely accessible, empower tribal communities, and help preserve traditional knowledge systems. He also urged the Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) and Tribal Welfare Departments (TWDs) of all states and Union Territories to promote this platform among universities, faculty, and students, and to encourage them to actively enroll in its courses.

This platform currently offers 20 free certificate courses based on various forms of tribal art, such as paintings, handicrafts, handloom products, artworks, and traditional musical instruments and plans to expand this to over 100 certificate courses. It connects learners worldwide with tribal experts while also serving as a digital repository to preserve and promote India’s rich tribal heritage for future generations.

An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, and Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, for a PG Diploma course. TribeX offers five UGC-recognized one-year hybrid diploma programs, which are as follows:

  1. Tribal Language: Santali (Ol Chiki)
  2. Museology and Tribal Museum Management
  3. Sustainable Tribal Culture Based Livelihood Practices
  4. Tribal Textiles Tribal Arts and Crafts of India
  5. Tribal Arts and Crafts of India

This platform features an integrated Learning Management System (LMS) and a repository management system, creating a seamless digital ecosystem for learning and knowledge management. Its heritage archive houses over 5,000 multimedia resources (a figure set to rise to 10,000) that document India’s tribal festivals, cultural customs, and oral traditions. As a one-stop digital platform, TribeX aims to become a global gateway for India’s tribal heritage by fostering the learning, documentation, and preservation of tribal knowledge for future generations.
