Major Highway Upgrade: NHAI Launches Rajasthan’s First Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System on NH-48

Date:

Rajasthan: The NHAI successfully launched a Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF)-based tolling system at the Daulatpura toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur section of NH-48 in Rajasthan. Following the launch at Daulatpura, the NHAI plans to upgrade the Shahjahanpur and Manoharapura toll plazas to the MLFF system as well, making travel on the busy Delhi-Jaipur section smoother and seamless.

This system integrates Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with FASTag-based electronic toll collection to enable the automatic collection of user fees with minimal human intervention. Prior to this, the NHAI had successfully implemented the MLFF-based tolling system at the Chorasi toll plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat and the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi.

To ensure an uninterrupted MLFF experience, National Highway users must maintain a sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts. If the FASTag balance is low, or if the FASTag is invalid or non-functional, an electronic notice (E-Notice) is sent to the user for non-payment of the user fee. Such users are required to pay the standard user fee within 72 hours of receiving the E-Notice. Failure to make the payment even after 72 hours will result in a charge of twice the standard user fee, based on the vehicle category. The e-notice can be viewed and paid for on the https://nhfeenotice.parivahan.gov.in/#/ portal. Users can also file grievances within 72 hours of the e-notice being issued. Failure to pay the e-notice may result in the FASTag being blacklisted and the suspension of other vehicle-related services via the VAHAN platform. Officials have already implemented the e-notice system.

Implementing MLFF will help strengthen the tolling ecosystem. It will enhance transparency, reduce operational costs associated with constructing physical toll plazas, and improve the overall efficiency of toll operations across the country. (PIB)
