Jodhpur/Jaisalmer, April 2026: A major infrastructure upgrade by North Western Railway has transformed Jaisalmer into an emerging technical and maintenance hub, with a ₹128 crore project significantly enhancing railway operations in the region.
Jaisalmer Becomes Rail Maintenance Hub
Under the project, Jaisalmer Railway Station has been upgraded into a state-of-the-art maintenance and operational hub, boosting its capacity to handle more trains.

- Construction of new trip sheds and maintenance facilities
- Installation of a wheel lathe line for coach maintenance
- Laying of 4.8 km of new railway track, increasing total track capacity
These enhancements have improved the station’s ability to maintain coaches and manage higher train volumes efficiently.

With increased infrastructure and maintenance capacity, the upgraded facility will:
