Uttar Pradesh Announces Major Labour Reforms: Weekly Holidays, Salary Transparency Made Mandatory

Date:

Lucknow, April 2026: The Uttar Pradesh Government has rolled out a series of labour welfare measures aimed at improving working conditions and ensuring workers’ rights across industrial areas, following a high-level review chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Immediate Dialogue with Industries Ordered

Industrial development authorities have been directed to initiate dialogue within 24 hours with industry bodies and individual units to address workers’ concerns, especially in sensitive districts.

Strict Enforcement of Labour Laws

The government has mandated strict compliance with labour laws, particularly in Gautam Buddha Nagar, a major industrial hub.

Key directives include:

  • Timely payment of wages without delays
  • Double overtime pay with no deductions
  • Ensuring weekly holidays for all workers
  • Sunday work to be compensated at twice the wage rate

Monthly Wage Transparency Measures

To enhance transparency and financial security:

  • Wages must be paid in a single instalment by the 10th of every month
  • Employers are required to issue salary slips to workers

These steps aim to eliminate discrepancies and ensure accountability in wage payments.

Focus on Worker Safety and Dignity

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that fair wages, safe working conditions, and basic facilities are non-negotiable. He stressed the need to uphold workers’ dignity while ensuring industries follow regulations strictly.

Push for Dialogue Amid Recent Unrest

In response to recent unrest in certain industrial areas, the CM called for immediate engagement between authorities, employers, and worker representatives to resolve disputes through dialogue.

He reiterated that timely wage payments and proper overtime compensation must be strictly enforced to prevent further issues.
