Satya Nadella Highlights India’s Talent Power, Predicts World’s Largest Developer Community

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella reiterated the company’s commitment to strengthening India’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities on Thursday. Praising the potential of India’s human capital, he stated that the country is poised to become home to the world’s largest developer community by 2030.

Nadella made these remarks as the chief guest at the “IDEAS4INDIA: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum | Unlocking the Tech Dividend” event, organised by the Consulate General of India in Seattle. The forum aimed to leverage the expertise of the Indian-American technology community based in the Greater Seattle area.

Presence of Over 40 Tech Leaders

The event was attended by more than 40 CEOs and CTOs of Indian origin representing major Pacific Northwest companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Intel. Seasoned leaders from sectors such as cloud computing, AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, aerospace, and enterprise software participated. Ajay Bhatt, the inventor of the USB-C drive and a Padma Shri awardee, also took part in the discussions.

Discussion on India-US Tech Partnership

During the interactive session, the CEOs shared their insights on topics such as AI infrastructure, data centres, semiconductor design and manufacturing, quantum research, talent upskilling, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, welcomed the desire to further deepen the India-US technology partnership. He stated that India’s AI mission would be anchored in principles of inclusivity, openness, sovereignty, democratic access, safety, and trust.

Observance of Silence for Two Stalwarts

The forum began with the observance of silence in memory of two prominent Seattle-based technology leaders of Indian origin—Samir Bodas (Co-founder and CEO of Icertis) and S. …began with a minute of silence in memory of Somasegar (Managing Director at Madrona Venture Group and former Corporate Vice President at Microsoft). Both had passed away recently, and participants honoured their contributions.

Mention of Major Investments

Microsoft has announced an investment of US$17.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2029. This marks the company’s largest-ever investment in Asia, focusing on cloud and AI infrastructure, skill development, and operations. Amazon has announced an investment of $48 billion between 2026 and 2030, which includes the expansion of AWS data centres in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Costco is establishing its first Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad. This forum was the first event of its kind held in Seattle. It is expected to further strengthen collaboration in sectors such as AI, quantum technology, semiconductors, space, telecommunications, and biotechnology under the India-US TRUST initiative (Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology).
