CM Reviews Udaipur Growth, Orders New Long-Term Planning Framework

Date:

Jaipur/Udaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive long-term development plan for Udaipur, focusing on future population growth, tourism expansion, and infrastructure needs. The decision was taken during a review meeting with district-level officials held at the Zila Parishad auditorium in Udaipur on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) and the Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) to design a special development blueprint covering a 25 to 30-kilometre peripheral zone around the city. The proposed plan aims to manage urban expansion in a systematic manner while strengthening civic infrastructure and improving the overall living conditions in the city.

Sharma stressed that Udaipur, widely known as Rajasthan’s leading tourist destination, requires modern infrastructure to handle the increasing number of domestic and international visitors arriving every year. He directed officials to focus on road development, traffic management, drinking water supply, sanitation systems, and civic amenities while preparing the master plan.

Highlighting the city’s growing urban pressure, the Chief Minister said future planning should take into account both rising population and tourism demands. Officials were asked to ensure that development projects are implemented in a structured and sustainable manner to avoid long-term civic issues.

A major focus of the meeting was the Dewas Project, which is considered crucial for Udaipur’s future water security. Sharma instructed departments to speed up pending works related to the project and ensure timely completion. Officials informed the meeting that after the completion of the third and fourth phases of the Dewas Project, Udaipur’s lakes are expected to face minimal water shortages in the coming years.

The Chief Minister also directed authorities to complete ongoing infrastructure projects before the arrival of the monsoon season to minimise inconvenience to residents and tourists. Special emphasis was placed on sewerage works, pipeline projects, and the city’s proposed Ring Road development.

In addition, Sharma appreciated the AI-based traffic management system at Fatehpura intersection and suggested implementing similar technology-driven traffic solutions at other major junctions across Udaipur to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Officials were also instructed to prioritise cleanliness and sanitation across the city. The Chief Minister emphasised the need for safe drinking water and directed departments to install water treatment plants wherever necessary.

The latest initiative is being viewed as part of the Rajasthan government’s broader effort to modernise urban infrastructure while preserving Udaipur’s identity as one of India’s most prominent tourism and heritage cities.
