India to host Asian Para Throwball Championship as Singhania University selected venue for 2027 event

Date:

Rajasthan: Singhania University in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, will host the 3rd Asian Para Throwball Championship from March 18 to 21, 2027, marking a major international para-sports event in India that will bring together athletes from across Asia. The tournament is being organised in collaboration with the World Para Throwball Federation and the Para Throwball Federation of India, and is expected to enhance the visibility of para sports while promoting inclusivity and sports tourism in the region.

The announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 1, 2026, in Jaipur, formalising the university’s role as the host institution. According to organisers, the championship will feature participation from over 21 countries, including India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia. The large-scale participation is expected to make it one of the most significant para-throwball events in Asia.

Officials said the decision to select Singhania University was based on its prior experience in hosting national-level para-throwball competitions, including the National Para Throwball Championship held in 2026, which demonstrated the institution’s capability in managing large sporting events and providing adequate infrastructure for athletes with disabilities.

The upcoming championship will be conducted over four days and will include men’s and women’s categories, following international para-throwball rules and regulations. Organisers stated that the event will be structured to ensure fair competition and accessibility, with special arrangements planned for athlete mobility, accommodation, and medical support on campus.

University authorities said preparations are already underway, with plans to upgrade sports facilities, improve accessibility infrastructure, and develop dedicated accommodation zones for participating teams and officials. The institution has also indicated that coordination with sports federations and local administrative bodies will begin well in advance to ensure smooth execution of the event.

According to the organisers, the championship is expected to serve multiple objectives beyond competition. These include promoting para sports awareness, encouraging youth participation, and strengthening sports tourism in Rajasthan. Officials noted that hosting an international para-sports event of this scale will also provide exposure to students and local communities, helping build greater understanding of inclusive sports development.

Sports administrators associated with the federation said the event is part of a broader effort to expand para-throwball across Asia and provide structured competitive platforms for athletes with disabilities. The championship is also expected to contribute to improving the competitive standards of participating teams through regular international exposure.

The selection of India as host reflects the country’s growing role in supporting para-sports infrastructure and organising international disability sports events. Officials said the 2027 edition will be a milestone in strengthening collaboration between Asian nations in para sports development.

With preparations underway, the March 2027 championship is expected to position Singhania University as a key venue for international para sports in Asia, while reinforcing India’s presence in the global para-throwball movement.
