Rajasthan Holds High-Level Review of Poshan 2.0, Emphasizes Anganwadi Strengthening

Date:

Rajasthan: Rajasthan is placing renewed emphasis on child nutrition and early education, with the state government conducting a detailed review of key welfare programmes such as Saksham Anganwadi Centres and Poshan 2.0 initiatives. The review was chaired by the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, who closely examined the progress of these schemes across various districts and issued directions to further strengthen their implementation at the ground level.

Officials said the discussion mainly revolved around improving the delivery of maternal and child nutrition services, early childhood care, and basic health support systems. The government is working with the aim of ensuring that benefits under these flagship programmes reach every eligible beneficiary on time, without delays or administrative hurdles.

During the review, the Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of better coordination between departments such as Women and Child Development, Health, and Local Administration. He stressed that only strong inter-departmental cooperation can ensure that services are delivered efficiently across both rural and urban areas, especially in remote regions.

A major part of the discussion focused on the Saksham Anganwadi Mission under Poshan 2.0, a centrally sponsored programme aimed at reducing malnutrition and improving child development outcomes. Under this initiative, traditional Anganwadi centres are being upgraded into modern Saksham Anganwadi Centres equipped with improved infrastructure, digital learning tools, child-friendly facilities, and better nutrition services.

Officials explained that these upgraded centres are designed to provide a complete package of services, including supplementary nutrition, pre-school education, immunisation support, health check-ups, and referral services. The overall goal is to build a more structured and effective early childhood care system across the state.

The review also acknowledged the critical contribution of frontline workers such as Anganwadi workers and supervisors, who play a key role in implementing these schemes at the village level. Their efforts in community outreach, tracking beneficiaries, and ensuring timely delivery of nutritional support to mothers and children were specially appreciated.

Another important point discussed was the increasing use of digital monitoring systems and real-time data tracking platforms, which are helping improve transparency and accountability in service delivery. Officials noted that technology is now playing a crucial role in identifying gaps quickly and ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left behind.

The Chief Secretary also urged departments to focus more on community participation and awareness campaigns, particularly in rural and remote areas. He said that awareness is essential for improving nutrition practices, encouraging regular health check-ups, and reducing malnutrition among children and women.

In addition, departments were directed to prioritise capacity building and regular training of Anganwadi workers, ensuring they are well-equipped with updated knowledge and resources to deal with evolving challenges in child nutrition and care. Strengthening human resources at the grassroots level was described as a key factor for long-term success.

Experts have welcomed the focus on Poshan 2.0 and Saksham Anganwadi Centres, calling them important steps toward tackling malnutrition and improving early childhood development in India. However, they also point out that sustained funding, consistent monitoring, and strong community involvement will be essential to achieve lasting results.

Overall, the review reflects Rajasthan’s continued commitment to strengthening nutrition security, improving early education systems, and ensuring better health outcomes for women and children across the state.
