The All India Inter-University Handball Men’s Tournament began on an energetic note in Jaipur, with the host University of Rajasthan delivering an impressive opening performance at the University Sports Complex.
The tournament, featuring 16 top university teams from across India, is being conducted over five days under the organization of the University of Rajasthan Sports Board.
In their opening match, the host team secured a dominant victory over LN Mithila University with a score of 45–26, showcasing strong attacking gameplay. The win was powered by Mohit, who scored 10 goals, while key contributions also came from Ashish (6 goals), and Sumit and Devendra (5 goals each).
The event was inaugurated in the presence of distinguished personalities, including para swimmer Dr. Satyendra Singh Lohiya and Olympian Gopal Saini, adding prestige to the competition.
In other league encounters, teams such as LPU Phagwara, UEM Jaipur, VIT Vellore, KAHE Coimbatore, Annamalai University, and Punjab University registered victories, highlighting a highly competitive opening round.
One of the closest matches saw Saurashtra University narrowly defeat Periyar University by just one goal, underlining the intense competition among participating teams.
The tournament continues with a league-cum-knockout format, where teams are divided into four pools and the top two from each group will advance to the knockout stage.
Officials stated that the championship aims to provide a strong platform for young athletes and promote inter-university sports excellence across India.
