Jaipur, Rajasthan: Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Sunday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s positive remarks on India-US relations, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s top priority is safeguarding India’s interests on the global stage.
“Protecting India and India’s interests is Prime Minister Modi’s priority. No compromise will be made on that,” Shekhawat said while addressing reporters in Jaipur.
He emphasized that India has historically shared strong and friendly ties with the United States, which have only strengthened in recent years under PM Modi’s leadership. Shekhawat highlighted that the large Indian diaspora in the US plays a crucial role in deepening cultural, economic, and diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
“India has had very good relations with America. There is a very large Indian population in America. There has always been friendship between India and America, and there will be,” he added.
His statement came in response to President Trump’s recent remarks appreciating the India-US partnership and expressing optimism about bilateral cooperation in areas of trade, defense, and global security.
Observers note that both countries continue to collaborate on issues ranging from counter-terrorism and defense partnerships to technology, healthcare, and climate change initiatives. The strengthening of this relationship is seen as critical not just for both nations, but also for regional and global stability.
Shekhawat reiterated that under PM Modi’s leadership, India would continue to engage with the US as an equal partner while firmly protecting national interests.
