Ajmer: Sufi Council Chief Urges Peace, Dismisses Misinformation on Waqf Amendment Act

Date:

Amid ongoing unrest in West Bengal over the Waqf Amendment Act, Syed Naseruddin Chishty, Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council, has made a strong appeal for peace and urged the Muslim community not to fall prey to misinformation or political manipulation.

Speaking from Ajmer, Chishty said, “Violence is never in the interest of society or country. Everyone condemns violence, but I would like to appeal to everyone to maintain peace.”

He reassured the community that the Waqf Amendment Act does not threaten religious practices or Waqf properties. “There is nothing in this Act that would harm your religious matters or Waqf property. The government has officially said this again and again, so we should trust them and the Constitution of the country,” he stated.

Chishty warned against being misled by political forces, adding, “We should not be misled by anyone and not become puppets in anyone’s hands. I would like to appeal to the Muslims of this nation that whenever the matter of your development and protection of your rights has been taken up, you have been made political pawns. Don’t become anyone’s political pawn.”

His remarks come at a time when tensions remain high in parts of West Bengal following protests that turned violent. The government has reiterated its stance that the amendments are administrative in nature and do not infringe upon religious or property rights.
