PM Modi Highlights Power Sector Reforms, Slams Congress-Era Blackouts in Yamuna Nagar Address

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a public programme in Yamuna Nagar on Sunday, emphasized the critical role of electricity in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and outlined the strides made by the BJP government in strengthening India’s power sector.

“Electricity is crucial for a developed India,” PM Modi stated, adding that the BJP has worked relentlessly to boost power generation across the board—from thermal and hydro to renewable energy sources like solar.

Drawing a sharp contrast with previous regimes, the Prime Minister criticized the Congress-era power shortages and frequent blackouts, saying, “There was a time when people were used to long hours of power cuts. Today, India is progressing towards uninterrupted power supply.”

Highlighting recent initiatives, he spoke about the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a scheme aimed at empowering citizens to become energy producers by installing rooftop solar panels. “Under this scheme, people can reduce their electricity bills and even earn by selling surplus power. It also opens up new avenues for employment and green energy innovation,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Haryana forms part of his broader outreach ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, with a focus on development narratives and the government’s efforts in ensuring energy security for the nation.
