Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Highlights Role of Seema Suraksha Bal in Border Security

Date:

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat recently praised the pivotal role played by the Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) in ensuring the security of India’s borders, particularly along the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Speaking to the media, Shekhawat emphasized that the Seema Suraksha Bal is the largest central armed police force in the country, tasked with guarding the nation’s frontiers.

“According to the Geneva Convention, it was decided that the army would always patrol behind the border,” Shekhawat explained. He went on to highlight that the formation of the Seema Suraksha Bal, a key security force, was a significant step during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The force was created with the primary objective of securing India’s borders while ensuring that the military’s role remained focused on national defense.

The Seema Suraksha Bal works alongside the Border Security Force (BSF) to safeguard India’s borders from infiltration and other threats. Shekhawat pointed out that both the SSB and BSF are the only central armed police forces authorized to carry out operations on land, water, and air, making them crucial to the country’s defense strategy.

“The Seema Suraksha Bal and the BSF are the only forces with the capability to conduct operations across all terrains—on land, water, and in the air—ensuring comprehensive border security,” the Minister stated. He commended the bravery and dedication of these forces in protecting India’s borders from external threats.

The SSB’s role has been instrumental in not only maintaining border security but also in ensuring the smooth functioning of India’s security apparatus. As the largest central armed police force, it plays a vital role in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, especially along the sensitive borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Shekhawat’s statement underscores the importance of the Seema Suraksha Bal in the country’s broader security framework, reinforcing the government’s commitment to national defense and border protection.
