Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his enthusiasm over the recent addition of new Ramsar Sites in India, highlighting the country’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. The announcement, which includes three new Ramsar Sites from Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, underscores India’s dedication to conserving its vital wetland ecosystems.

In a statement reacting to a post by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, Modi praised the growth in the number of Ramsar Sites, emphasizing their importance in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity.

“Indeed a joyous occasion for India that our Ramsar sites number rises, indicating the priority we accord to sustainable development as well as living in harmony with nature,” Modi remarked. He offered special recognition to the residents and officials of Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, acknowledging their efforts in achieving this significant milestone.

The Ramsar Convention, an international treaty focused on the protection and sustainable management of wetlands, now includes these newly recognized sites, highlighting India’s proactive role in global environmental conservation. This expansion not only enhances the country’s Ramsar Site portfolio but also reflects its commitment to international environmental agreements.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the government’s dedication to environmental issues, stating, “We will continue to be at the forefront of such efforts in the times to come.” His comments reflect the ongoing emphasis on strengthening India’s environmental policies and supporting global sustainability goals.

The recognition of new Ramsar Sites from Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh highlights the collaborative efforts between state and central governments in advancing environmental conservation. This development is seen as a significant step towards reinforcing India’s role as a leader in global environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
