Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today formally introduced members of the newly constituted Council of Ministers in the Lok Sabha, marking a significant moment in the parliamentary proceedings. Following the election of Om Birla as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi presented Union Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State (Independent Charges), and Ministers of State to the Lower House.

The introduction ceremony, conducted amidst parliamentary decorum and protocol, showcased the diverse composition of the Council of Ministers, reflecting the government’s commitment to governance, development, and inclusive growth.

Later in the session, Speaker Om Birla addressed the House on the solemn occasion of the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency on 25th June 1975. Expressing poignant reflections, Mr. Birla condemned the Emergency as a grave assault on India’s democratic fabric and fundamental rights. He commended the unwavering determination of individuals who resisted the Emergency’s draconian measures, safeguarding democratic values and upholding the spirit of the Constitution crafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar.

Highlighting the significance of the day in India’s historical narrative, Speaker Birla underscored the nation’s standing as the largest democracy globally. He reiterated the core principles of debate, dissent, and democratic ethos that form the bedrock of India’s democratic identity.

During Mr. Birla’s address, members of the Congress party voiced their dissent by raising slogans against the government, alleging its actions undermined constitutional principles. The session also witnessed a solemn moment of silence in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives during the tumultuous period of the Emergency.

Subsequently, the Lok Sabha adopted a resolution condemning the imposition of Emergency, reaffirming its commitment to upholding democratic values and constitutional rights. The House adjourned for the day following these deliberations, marking a poignant moment of reflection and resolve.

The proceedings in the Lok Sabha today resonated with historical significance, as parliamentarians paid tribute to India’s democratic resilience and reiterated their commitment to defending the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.
