The Indian women’s kabaddi team made a brilliant start to its title defence at the Asian Games 2026 by defeating Bangladesh 42-21 in the opening match of Group A.
In the match held at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium, India maintained dominance from the very beginning and secured an easy victory with a balanced performance in both raiding and defense.
India had already established a firm grip on the match in the first half itself. Powered by successful raids and effective defense, the team maintained pressure on Bangladesh and secured a 21-10 lead by the break. During this period, the Indian team also inflicted an ‘all-out’ on their opponents.
India maintained its momentum in the second half as well. Sanju Devi and Pooja secured crucial points through successful hand touches, while the Indian defense consistently challenged the Bangladeshi raiders. Bangladesh attempted a comeback in the closing stages of the match, but India sustained the pressure and inflicted another ‘all-out’.
Sanju Devi played a pivotal role in India’s victory, extending the team’s lead with successive successful raids during the decisive phase. Manisha Kumari put up an effective defensive performance from the left cover position, while Sonali Shingate and captain Pushpa Rana made significant contributions to the raiding effort.
India’s tally of 42 points included 11 bonus points and four all-out points. Bangladesh secured five bonus points and one super tackle point.
With this victory, the Indian women’s team has made a strong start to its campaign in the group stage. The Indian team will now play its next match against Iran on Wednesday September 23, at 8:30 AM.
