Jaipur, April 2026: Residents of Jaipur are likely to get major relief from recurring water supply disruptions, as the Bisalpur Project Wing is set to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for laying a new pipeline from Bisalpur to Jaipur. Officials said the DPR will be ready within one month, after which the tender process will begin.
Single Inlet Pipeline Behind Frequent Disruptions
Water supply from Bisalpur to Jaipur began in 2009, but the project included only one inlet pipeline, despite provisions for an additional line. Although land for the second pipeline was acquired at the time, the work never progressed.
The absence of an alternative pipeline has resulted in frequent shutdowns, especially during maintenance or leakage repairs.
Shutdowns Disrupt City Water Supply
Due to major leakages and technical issues, the department is forced to take 2–3 shutdowns every year, severely affecting water supply across the city.
Recently, a shutdown near Renwal to fix a leakage in the main supply line led to a complete halt of water supply in Jaipur for an entire day.
New Pipeline to Ensure Long-Term Water Security
According to Additional Chief Engineer Ajay Singh Rathore:
- The DPR will be completed within a month
- Tendering will begin immediately after DPR approval
- No additional land is required, as land is already reserved
- A team including retired engineers will assist in DPR preparation
Once completed, the new pipeline is expected to secure Jaipur’s drinking water needs for the next 30 years.
1,886 Crore Project Announced
The state government has already announced a ₹1,886 crore project in the budget to lay a new pipeline from Bisalpur to Balawala, aiming to strengthen Jaipur’s water supply infrastructure.
