A dedicated cardiac centre for heart attack treatment will soon be launched at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, marking a major step toward improving emergency cardiac care in the state.
The new facility, expected to start operations later this month, will be the first dedicated cardiac centre in Rajasthan and aims to significantly reduce treatment response time for heart attack patients.
Faster Treatment for Heart Attack Patients
Once operational, the cardiac centre is expected to reduce treatment response time by 30 minutes to one hour, which could help save many lives.
Currently, heart attack patients arriving at the emergency department of SMS Hospital are shifted to the Bangur Cardiology Hospital for treatment.
This transfer process, which involves moving patients by ambulance or stretcher and completing medical procedures before reaching specialist doctors, often takes 30 minutes to an hour.
Medical experts say that every minute of delay increases the risk to the patient during a heart attack.
Modern Cardiac Facilities at One Location
To address this challenge, the hospital has established a modern cardiac centre within the SMS hospital campus.
The centre will include:
- Cath lab for angiography and angioplasty
- Cardiac ICU
- Advanced monitoring systems
- Emergency cardiac treatment facilities
- Team of specialist cardiologists and medical staff
With all services available in one place, patients can be directly shifted from the emergency ward to the cardiac centre, allowing treatment to begin immediately.
Final Preparations Underway
Hospital authorities said that installation of medical equipment is almost complete, and the process of allocating doctors, nurses, and other medical staff is underway.
After technical testing and final preparations are completed, the centre will be officially launched.
Officials expect the cardiac centre to start operations by the end of March or in the first week of April.
Importance of the ‘Golden Hour’
Cardiologists emphasize that the first hour after a heart attack, known as the “golden hour,” is critical for treatment.
If procedures such as angioplasty or other medical interventions are performed during this period, the chances of survival increase significantly.
Having all cardiac treatment facilities available within the same hospital campus will help doctors respond faster and improve patient outcomes.
Rising Cases of Heart Attacks
Health experts have also noted a rise in heart attack cases among younger people in recent years.
Factors such as stress, unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, and high blood pressure are believed to be contributing to the increasing number of cardiac emergencies.
The launch of the new cardiac centre at SMS Hospital is expected to benefit thousands of heart patients visiting the state’s largest government hospital, providing faster and more advanced treatment facilities.
