Prime Minister Modi Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi Ahead of 78th Independence Day Address

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid solemn tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, New Delhi, as part of the Independence Day celebrations marking the 78th anniversary of India’s freedom from British rule. The visit to the iconic memorial was a prelude to his much-anticipated address to the nation.

At the crack of dawn, Modi arrived at Rajghat, the final resting place of the Father of the Nation, to lay a wreath and offer his respects. The Prime Minister, dressed in traditional attire, observed a moment of silence before engaging in a brief prayer, reflecting on Gandhi’s enduring legacy of non-violence and resilience.

In his address to the nation, which followed the tribute, Modi highlighted the progress India has made since gaining independence in 1947. He lauded the collective efforts of the people in transforming India into a global powerhouse and reiterated the government’s commitment to furthering economic growth, social justice, and national unity.

“The spirit of independence is not merely in the celebration of our past but in the continued endeavor to build a brighter future,” Modi said in his speech. He also called for renewed efforts towards achieving sustainable development and bridging social divides.

The Prime Minister’s tribute to Gandhi underscored the values of peace and unity that are central to India’s national ethos. It served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the leaders of the freedom struggle and the ideals for which they fought.

As the nation observed Independence Day, Modi’s address was marked by a call to action for every citizen to contribute to the ongoing journey of nation-building, inspired by the principles of Gandhi and the vision of India’s founding leaders.
