Union Cabinet Approves Phase‑2 of Jaipur Metro, Boosting City Connectivity

Date:

Jaipur/New Delhi, April 9, 2026: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase‑2 of the Jaipur Metro Rail Project, a major expansion set to enhance urban mobility in Rajasthan’s capital.

The new phase will add a 41-kilometre North-South corridor connecting Prahladpura in the north to Todi Mod in the south, with 36 stations covering key hubs such as the Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur Airport, SMS Hospital & Stadium, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Tonk Road, and Ambabari. Some stations, particularly near the airport, will be underground, while others will be elevated.

The total project cost is estimated at ₹13,037.66 crore. It will be implemented by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan, with funding sourced through a mix of central-state equity, debt, and multilateral loans.

Once completed, the Phase‑2 corridor will integrate with the existing Phase‑1 East-West line, enabling seamless travel across Jaipur and significantly reducing road congestion, increasing public transport use, and cutting vehicular emissions.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2031, with phased construction ensuring multiple contractors can work simultaneously. Officials highlight that the metro expansion will also benefit tourists, residents, and workers, strengthening connectivity to residential, commercial, and industrial zones.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma thanked Prime Minister Modi and the Union Cabinet for the approval, calling it a “lifeline for Jaipur’s urban transport system.” Prime Minister Modi hailed the decision as a step toward sustainable urban growth and improved quality of life.
