PM Modi Highlights Media’s Role and Government Policies at Mumbai Event

Date:

In a significant address at a public event in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the pivotal role of the media in fostering public discourse while acknowledging its influence on shaping government policies. Speaking passionately, Modi emphasized that the media’s direction often mirrors the priorities and decisions of the government.

“The natural role of the media is to create discourse and promote discussions on serious topics,” Prime Minister Modi remarked, addressing a diverse audience in Maharashtra’s capital. He noted, however, that the focus and direction of media discourse are intricately linked with the policies pursued by the government of the day.

Highlighting a shift in governance philosophy under his administration, Modi contrasted traditional approaches rooted in vote-bank politics with his government’s agenda-driven initiatives. “Governments have historically framed policies based on vote-bank considerations,” he stated, adding, “We have transformed this mindset.”

Drawing parallels to transformative policies, Modi recalled the inception of the Jan Dhan Yojana, a financial inclusion initiative launched shortly after his government assumed office in 2014. “Decades ago, banks were nationalized in our country. However, until 2014, millions of poor Indians lacked access to even basic banking services,” he observed. Modi pointed out that nearly half of India’s population remained outside the formal banking system until the introduction of the Jan Dhan Yojana.

“The Jan Dhan Yojana was not merely a policy; it became a national movement,” Modi proclaimed, illustrating its pivotal role in advancing the Digital India initiative and combating corruption. He proudly cited that around 50 crore people, roughly half the nation’s population, were successfully integrated into the banking network through this scheme.

Modi’s remarks underscored his government’s commitment to leveraging financial inclusion as a cornerstone of its socio-economic policies, enabling marginalized communities to access essential financial services and participate more fully in the nation’s development trajectory.

The Prime Minister’s address in Mumbai not only highlighted the transformative impact of government initiatives but also underscored the symbiotic relationship between media discourse and policy formulation in shaping India’s socio-economic landscape. As the country navigates complex challenges, Modi reaffirmed the role of a proactive media in fostering informed public debate and steering the nation towards inclusive growth and development.
